142. Flying under water!

Close to the rushing water of the mountain streams lives the strong and sturdy bird Dipper- of the size of a starling!

It can fly under water! Using its strong wings, it can dive up to 20 feet under water.

It can fly down to the bottom. It can stay under water for as long as half an hour and feed there.

It can walk against the current of water at an angle. A moving flap over the bird’s nostrils keeps the water out of it.

Its eyes are protected by a thin membrane, so to say, a third eyelid in each of its eyes.
