Using their own wing power, many species of butterflies

can travel up to 600 miles (1000 k.m) non-stop!

Some can even fly across the Atlantic ocean from North America

to Europe making use of the prevailing westerly winds.

Monarch butterflies are capable of crossing the Atlantic ocean non-stop

under favorable wind and weather conditions.
