144. One Thousand eggs a day!”

The queen termite grows more than 100 times bigger than her subjects. She becomes a massive

egg-laying-machine! She spends her entire life in the most secure chamber of the nest. She is fed by the

worker- termites.

A mature queen may lay as many as 1000 eggs per day @ more than one egg a minute! Her consort

fertilizes her at intervals. Both the Queen and the king(?) secrete an acid. The other members of the

colony lick this in order to remain sterile.

If the queen stops laying eggs, she is denied food and let to die of starvation! Her body is eagerly

devoured by her loyal subjects. Deprived of the contraceptive acid, the female at the right age develops

the ability to lay the eggs and becomes the new queen. If the king becomes sterile, he is similarly

replaced by a young male and their life goes on!
