135. The Annual trip

Each year the short tailed shear-waters make a five months long and 20,000 miles long round.

They breed on the islands of Bass straight between Australia and Tasmania.

In mid April, the flock young and old set out on their annual trip to the pacific coasts –

visiting Japan, Alaska, Canada and Fiji.

They return to the Bass straight in the last few days of September.

They go off to feed and return around 20th November and start breeding.

The next annual trip will start in mid April again.
